Vandiver receives SCH’s inaugural Daisy Foundation Award

Stephens County Hospital named its inaugural Daisy Foundation recipient.

On Thursday, the hospital invited the 17 nominees to attend a reception where Sandra Vandiver, one of the nominated nurses, was named the Daisy Award winner.

According to Stephens County Hospital’s Chief Nursing Operator Deb Block, the Daisy Foundation is recognized worldwide and honors nurses who go above and beyond the call of duty to aid their patients’ recovery.

She says the Foundation was established by the family of Patrick Barnes in 1999.

Block explained that Stephens County Hospital is now part of the Daisy Foundation.

She says they started their Daisy journey earlier this year in March by creating a committee.

Block says the committee is responsible for reviewing the nominations, ranking and scoring each nominee, and making the final recommendation for the winning nominee.

She says there were 17 nurses nominated for the Daisy Award and each of them will receive a certificate and pin recognizing them for being nominated.

She says she was once nominated for the Daisy Award at a facility she worked for before coming to Stephens County Hospital.

Block said Vandiver received six nominations for the award.

Vandiver said it’s an honor for her to work at Stephens County Hospital with colleagues she considers her second family.
