Sept. 9, 2024 – Stephens County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that a reported threat to a local school in Stephens County was not credible. The incident, which raised concerns among students, parents, and staff, has been thoroughly investigated by law enforcement.
Last night, Sept. 8, school officials received a report of a social media post regarding a potential threat and contacted the Sheriff’s Office. This prompted an immediate investigation by Sheriff’s Office investigators. As a result of our investigator’s efforts, one individual was detained for questioning and swiftly arrested following an interview.
The individual was then transported to RYDC around midnight. At this time, there is no ongoing threat to the safety of students or staff in the district.
The Stephens County Sheriff’s Office and our partners at the Stephens County School System take threats very seriously. Deputies continue to provide an increased law enforcement presence at all schools, as well as Toccoa Falls College. We encourage parents to reach out to school officials with any questions or concerns.
School Superintendent Dr. Connie Franklin requests that phone calls to her regarding immediate parent or student concerns be made to (706) 886-9415.
