UPDATE: Identity of pilot killed in Jasper County plane crash released

The investigation continues into what caused a plane, piloted by a Toccoa businessman, to crash in Jasper County, Monday afternoon.

According to Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley the pilot has been identified as Milwood Ashley Dekle, of Toccoa.

At this point in the investigation, few details have been released regarding the cause of the crash.

Shirley says that Dekel left the Toccoa Airport Monday just after 1:30 p.m. headed to Cairo, Georgia to look at purchasing some land; however, around 3 p.m. Dekle’s Cessna 172 aircraft crashed in rural Jasper County, killing the pilot.

The FAA began investigating the crash on Tuesday.

Shirley told WNEG News Tuesday morning, that Jasper County Sheriff Ronnie Pope contacted him to help identify the victim.
