Two Men Arrested in Rabun County Murder Investigation
Law enforcement officials have made two arrests in connection with a murder investigation by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office.
On Sunday, August 6, the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office received information that a man killed a person and disposed of the body in Rabun County. Following protocol in murder investigations, they requested assistance from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
On Monday, based on information received, agents and deputies found the body of the victim in the Chattahoochee – Oconee National Forest. The victim has not been identified.
On Tuesday, August 8, acting on a tip from the public, GBI agents, and deputies from the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office, the Banks County Sheriff’s Office, the Hall County Sheriff’s Office, the Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office, and the Georgia State Patrol conducted an extensive search in the area of Gillsville Highway in Hall County.
Keegan Cleve Phillips, 23, of Otto, North Carolina, was arrested without incident and charged with murder, according to a GBI report. Robert Lee Peppers, 62, of Lula, has been arrested and charged with concealing a death and unlawful disposal of a body. Both Phillips and Peppers are currently in custody in the Rabun County Detention Center.
The investigation remains active. Once complete, the case will be handed over to the Mountain Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
