Two men arrested after reports of a suspected overdose

The Toccoa Police Department recently arrested two men after being dispatched to a possible overdose.

According to Toccoa Police Chief Jimmy Mize, on January 15, officers were dispatched to a possible overdose on Stewart Street.

Upon arrival, two male subjects and one female subject were questioned.

It was determined that no one was overdosing.

Mize says 39-year-old Antonio Mayfield, of Lavonia was found to have a gun in his pocket. The officers had dispatch run his information and found that he was a convicted felon and could not legally have possession of a weapon.

Mayfield was arrested for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and taken to Stephens County Jail.

Mize says 37-year-old Thomas Hunter, of Toccoa, repeatedly gave officers false information. It was found that Hunter had several warrants including a Bench Warrant from Stephens County Superior Court.

Hunter was arrested and charged with Obstruction or Hindering Law Enforcement Officers and the Bench Warrant.
