Two arrested by TPD in separate incidents

A car accident leads to the arrest of a Toccoa man.

According to Toccoa Police Chief Jimmy Mize on October 13, officers from the Toccoa Police Department were dispatched to East Tugalo Street, in reference to a motor vehicle accident.

Upon arrival, officers made contact with the driver of the vehicle involved, identified as 27-year-old Cory Whiten, and checked him for injuries.

After further investigation it was determined that Whiten was under the influence of drug/alcohol and was arrested on scene.

Whiten has been charged with possession and use of drug related objects, possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, possession of methamphetamine, possession of a schedule I controlled substance, and DUI.

In other news, the Toccoa Police Department recently arrested a man after a traffic stop.

According to Mize, on October 16, Officers performed a traffic stop on a vehicle after seeing that the vehicle had a non-functioning brake light.

Officers made contact with the occupants and noticed signs of impairment from the driver.

A standardized field sobriety test was administered on the driver, identified as 26-year-old Justin Justice, while an assisting officer had a positive alert by K-9 on the passenger side of the vehicle.

The vehicle was searched which resulted in the arrest of the driver.

Justice is charged with illegal possession of a controlled substance, possession of use of drug related items, possession of firearm or knife during the commission of certain crimes, and brake light/turn signal violation.
