TSCPL’s Summer Reading Program starts this week

The Toccoa-Stephens County Public Library is gearing up for its summer reading program.

According to Toccoa-Stephens County Public Library’s Regional Children and Youth Director Shantelle Grant the summer reading program will start next week on June 1, 2023.

She says this year’s theme is All Together Now.

“We are very excited about our Summer Reading Program this year, because the theme is ‘All Together Now,’ and what a way to teach children and adults how to work together. As you know, we are stronger together than apart. Starting June 1, tt’s a six week program, we are going to have activities where we are all working together to accomplish something,” she said.

She says on May 31, the library will be hosting a stuffed animal Slumber party.

“We’re going to kick-off on May 31, with a slumber party for the stuffed animals. I’m going to record activity that the stuffed animals will be engaged in during the night. It’s going to be a great time,” she said.

She explained that children will come in on May 31, to register and drop off their stuffed animals.

Grant says for the teenagers, they have planned a murder mystery.

“For my teens, I’ve decided that we need to have a murder mystery Not only are we going to plan our murder mystery, but we’ll also have our adults helping us solve it. And we’ll end with having a murder mystery dinner,” she said.

She says on Friday, June 2, there is a free performance at the Historic Ritz Theatre at 3 p.m. to kick-off the summer reading program.

She says they also have several things planned for the adults who are participating in the Summer Reading Program.

Grant says the Summer Reading Program is for any and everyone.
