Traffic stop ends with 2 in jail

A woman and man were arrested after a Toccoa Police Officer stopped their motorcycle.

According to Toccoa Police Chief Jimmy Mize, one of his officers was patrolling Broad Street when he observed a motorcycle he believed to be driven by a subject with active warrants.

After following the motorcycle for several miles, the officer activated his blue lights and sirens, but the motorcycle continued down SR-106 with no sign of stopping.

Mize says it wasn’t until the motorcycle approached the bypass at SR-17 that it pulled off the road.

The officer identified the driver as 32-year-old Ryan Ward, of Carnesville and his passenger as 34-year-old Trista Elizabeth Porter, of Alto.

According to Mize, while the officer was running their information through dispatch, he noticed Porter gripping something in her hand.

When the officer walked back towards the motorcycle, Porter dropped a baggie with a crystal-like-substance believed to be Methamphetamine.

Porter was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine.

A search of Ward turned up an uncapped needle with a small amount of blood on it.

Upon a thorough examination it was determined that Ward was under the influence of multiple substance.

He was arrested and charged with DUI Drugs and possession and use of drug related objects.

Both Ward and Porter were taken to the Stephens County Jail.
