TPD warns of fraudulent social media posting

The Toccoa Police Department is warning of a fake social media account.

According to Toccoa Police Chief Jimmy Mize, on September 14, the Toccoa Police Department became aware of a social media posting using an officer’s photo.

The original post contained information about an alleged active investigation.

Mize says the post and account it was posted from are both fake and false information.

Toccoa Police Department does not contact subjects via Facebook or other social media about active investigations nor do they post active investigations to social media.

Toccoa Police Department also does not and will not share the source of any confidential or anonymous information it receives.

The police department along with the GBI is actively investigating this incident and charges are possible.

Impersonating a police officer is a crime in the State of Georgia.
