Toys for Tots Underway

It’s hard to believe but it is once again time to start thinking about Christmas and Christmas giving.

And this year’s Toys for Tots campaign is already underway in Stephens, Franklin and Hart Counties, but there is something new for parents wanting to put in a request for toys for their children.

Local Toys for Tots administrator Don Alexander says the old method of calling Toys for Tots has been replaced with a new, online system.

Parents or guardians needing toys can go online to www.toysfortots.org and click on Request For Toys.

The Toys for Tots campaign officially got underway October 1, but Alexander said they began receiving requests for toys from parents as early as September.

Alexander said parents or guardians can then pick up the toys on certain dates.

This month, toys may be picked up on Friday, October 27th at the Toys for Tots warehouse on Whitman Street in Toccoa behind Mt. Zion Church.

If you are interested in donating toys or making a donation to the Toys for Tots campaign, Alexander says they will be at the Toccoa Wal-mart in November and December.

Monetary donations are also accepted, according to Alexander.

He says that money is used to purchase Christmas gifts for older children up to age 16 as well as for adults who are cognitively impaired.

Again low-income families can go online to www.toysfortots.org to request toys for children for Christmas.
