Tough Weekend for Indians BB Teams

It was a tough weekend for the Stephens County Indians boys and girls basketball teams as they were swept in games at Rabun County and Habersham Central.

On Friday, the Stephens County Indians, who missed 19 free throws, but still battled back from down double digits in the 4th quarter to tie the game, came up short falling to Rabun County 62-59.

The Indians were led in scoring by DJ Hampton with 18 points and Tyrese Mackie added 13. Rabun County was led by Connor McKay’s 21 points.

In the girls contest, Rabun County grabbed a double-digit lead in the first two minutes of the game to roll to a 66-20 win. A’niya Mayweather led the Lady Indians with 6 points. Lucy Hood was the only Lady Cat in double figures scoring 18.

On Saturday, the Lady Indians trailed by only 14-13 after one quarter, but was outscored 14-2 in the 2nd quarter, and fell 53-34 at Habersham Central.

Makiya Knox scored 9 points, all in the first quarter, to lead the Lady Indians. MyAngel Carter added 8 points scoring all in the 3rd quarter. Kyia Barrett led the Lady Raiders with 18 points.

In Saturday’s boy’s game, Malachi Dooley scored 30 points to lead the Habersham Central Raiders to an 80-64 win over the Indians. The Raiders led 25-12 at the end of the first quarter and 45-27 at the half.

Tyrese Mackie had a big game to lead the Indians with 23 points, and Corey Richie added 13.

Both Indians and Lady Indians are now 0-7 and will be looking for their first win on Tuesday when they travel to North Oconee. Airtime is scheduled for 5:45 P.M. on WNEG with tipoff for the Lady Indians game at 6 followed by the Indians game at 7:30 P.M.
