Top Ranked Hebron Wins at Stephens

The top ranked private school Hebron Christian Lions took advantage of turnovers to break open a tight game and remain undefeated in region-8 play with a 51-24 win over a gritty Stephens County team Friday night at the Reservation.

The Lions jumped out to an early 13-0 lead taking the opening drive 80 yards and culminating with a Jordan Greene to Max Steve 33-yard touchdown pass. The Lions followed up with an onside kick recovery and 48-yard touchdown pass from Greene to Jarvis Mathurin.

Stephens County cut the lead to six on a Dallas Hague 5-yard touchdown run, but the Lions Green and Mathurin connected again for a 20-yard TD pass and Devon Caldwell scored on a 21-yard touchdown run.

Stephens County would score the next 17 points with a Da’Von Swinton 2-yard touchdown run before the end of the half and 80-yard kickoff return to start the 2nd half, followed by Luke Waters’ 53-yard field goal to tie the school record in the 2nd straight game cutting the lead to 27-24.

It was all Hebron the rest of the way picking off three Indians passes and scoring the next 24 points.

Stephens County Head Coach Thomas Flowers said that he was proud of the effort, but they must cut down on the mistakes to compete with top teams.

Hebron Christian improves to 3-0 in region-8 AA play and 6-1 overall. Stephens County falls to 1-2 in region play and 3-5 overall. The Indians will travel to Hart County next Friday night to face the Bulldogs currently sitting in 2nd place in the region.
