Today is election day in Toccoa-Stephens County

Today is election day in Toccoa-Stephens County.

Polls, at the Stephens County Senior Center, open this morning at 7 a.m. and will remain open until 7 p.m.

According to Stephens County Registrar Eureka Gober, all voting will take place at the Senior Center located on Rose Lane.

She says despite there being no local run offs in Stephens County, residents will still cast ballots in the State House District 50 run-off and the U.S. House of Representatives District 9 races.

For the District 50 run-off, voters will cast ballots for Republicans Bo Hatchett and Stacy Hall.

In the District 9 race, voters will select candidates in both a Republican and Democratic run-off to replace Congressman Doug Collins, who is running in the November election to fill the unexpired term of Senator Johnny Isakson who retired last December.

On the Republican side, voters will choose between Gainesville businessman Andrew Clyde and State Representative Matt Gurtler.

On the Democratic side, voters will decide between Brooke Siskin and Devin Pandy.

Gober says there has been some confusion at the Registrar’s Office with residents coming in to cast ballots for Doug Collins; however, she says Collins is not on this ballot, but he will be on the ballot in November.

Additionally, anyone who requested an absentee ballot, must return them to the Registrar’s Office no later than 7 p.m. today.

Again, polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. today at the Stephens County Senior Center.
