Toccoa toddler wanders away from home, returned safely by TPD

A Toccoa toddler recently took an unaccompanied stroll down North Pond Street near Toccoa Elementary School.

However, the two-year-old was quickly spotted by a passerby who reacted by calling the Toccoa Police Department.

Officers found the child unharmed and were able to return him to his mother who lived close by.

According to Toccoa Police Chief Jimmy Mize, the incident occurred on Tuesday, May 26, when officers were dispatched to the area and made contact with the caller and juvenile.

After a brief search of nearby neighborhoods, the mother was located at her residence.

Mize says the Department of Family and Children Services were notified and responded to the scene to initiate an investigation before the child was returned to the mother.

A two-month-old child was also at home with the mother at the time of the occurrence.

No charges were made against the mother of the child.
