Toccoa teen arrested for drugs, after illegal turn

A traffic-stop ends with a Toccoa teen arrested.

According to Toccoa Police Chief Jimmy Mize, an officer made a traffic stop, the night of December 31, after they witnessed a vehicle make an improper turn off of Tugalo Street onto Falls Road.

As the officer approached the vehicle, he could smell the odor of marijuana coming from inside the stopped vehicle; the officer then asked both the driver and the passenger to step out of the vehicle.

A search of the passenger, identified as 17-year-old Austin Kinsey, of Toccoa, revealed a baggie of marijuana in his front pocket and drug related objects under the passenger seat.

Kinsey was then arrested and placed in the back seat of the patrol car.

The driver, Alana Bohannon was then searched by a female officer and given a field sobriety test, due to the improper turn and her red glossy eyes.

According to Mize, Bohannon did well on the sobriety test and was advised that she was free to leave.

Once the officer returned to his patrol car, where Kinsey was being held, he could smell the odor of marijuana from inside his car.

Mize said, the officer advised Kinsey that if he had additional marijuana in his possession then when they crossed the county guard line at the jail, the drug charge would become a felony.

Kinsey was then uncuffed and he pulled a bag out of his pants that had 30 grams of marijuana in it.

Kinsey was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of drug related objects. He was transported to the Stephens County Jail to be processed.
