Toccoa-Stephens County Welcome Center new home of Butterfly Garden

Spring has sprung in downtown Toccoa with the addition of the Toccoa-Stephens County Chamber of Commerce Butterfly Garden, being called “The Butterfly Station.”

This project was a joint effort with Keep Toccoa-Stephens County Beautiful, the Stephens County Extension and 4-H, City of Toccoa, and the Stephens County Chamber of Commerce.

The garden includes nectar plants to attract butterflies, host plants to lay their eggs on, and a butterfly water source.

According to County Extension Coordinator Susan Yearwood, this area will provide an adequate habitat that will attract various species of butterflies.

She says be on the lookout for beautiful butterflies invading downtown Toccoa.

Sharon Crenshaw, director of the Stephens County Welcome Center, plans to register the butterfly garden with the Rosalynn Carter Butterfly Trail.
