Toccoa Rotary Club Donates to Local Organizations

The Toccoa Rotary Club held the “Stuff The Bus” 5K run on November 23rd to help feed the hungry, and two local organizations were presented checks on Tuesday.

Approximately $5000 was donated to each the Hope Center and Food to Kids program.

Toccoa Rotary Club President Leon Womack says the money was mainly raised through advertisers for the event.

The Hope Center’s Steve Paysen tells WNEG what this donation means. “It means we continue to get to serve the people that need it most. It is costly to do what we do, but even though the needs are great the responsibility is even greater.”

Paysen says the money directly affects many. “This helps us with 11 months of keeping the shelter open for the men and we hope to expand for a women’s shelter in 2020 so this helps those that need it most.”

Lucy Davis with the Food to Kids program says the donation received will take care of food for 19 children for the school year. “This means that on the weekends during the school year each child that is identified as being food insecure will receive a bag of food weighing between 7 and 10 pounds to take home so that they will have food to keep them from getting hungry and they will be ready to learn on Monday morning.”

Womack says the Toccoa Rotary Club is thankful for the opportunity to donate to these groups. “It is a great opportunity to donate to these two great organizations because they do so much in the community.”

Womack added that Rotary’s motto is “service above self” and they enjoy giving back to the community.
