The Toccoa Police Department is warning citizens of a scam circulating in Toccoa-Stephens County.

According to Toccoa Police Chief Jimmy Mize, people are receiving text messages asking them to follow a fake link to verify their driver’s license information due to a temporary suspension.

These messages are scams.

Mize says citizens have contacted his office to report that the link request them to provide personal information in order to check the status of their license.

He says they are urging citizens not to click the link and to delete the message immediately.

As a general reminder, Mize says, do not give out any personal information to anyone you cannot verify, sharing personal information could lead to identity theft.
