Toccoa Police Chief urging motorist to watch for school buses

Toccoa Police Chief Jimmy Mize is reminding motorists to be mindful of school buses.

With just a few days into the school year, they have already had a couple of complaints regarding vehicles passing school buses.

He says drivers need to be alert on Big A Road and watch for busses picking up and dropping students off.

He says to remember if the stop sign on a bus is out you must stop.

The Toccoa Police Department is urging everyone to stay vigilant for children, especially at bus stops, in school zones and when visibility is reduced.

Mize says drivers also need to be aware that during the school zone hours Toccoa Police are out directing traffic and during this time the speed limit drops to 35 mph.

Mize adds that they want everyone to be safe and to remember to slow down and watch out for the children of our community.
