Toccoa pair arrested on drug charges

A Toccoa duo was arrested recently on drug charges.

According to Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley, on April 4, the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division reported two arrests at the conclusion of a narcotics investigation.

Shirley says the Criminal Investigation Division began receiving citizen complaints regarding their belief that David Howell was selling illegal narcotics at several Stephens County motels.

Their investigation, according to Shirley, led to securing a search warrant for Howell’s motel room at the Regency Inn, located on West Currahee Street.

After entering the motel room, investigators located a Pepsi drink container that is typically used to conceal contraband.

After opening the Pepsi Drink container, investigators recovered approximately one ounce of prepackaged methamphetamine.

A more thorough search of Howell’s room also led to the recovery of over 20 methadone tablets, marijuana, packaging material, and several digital scales.

David Howell, 42, of Toccoa was arrested for possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, and possession of a schedule II narcotic with intent to distribute.

Kate Watkins, 27, of Toccoa, was arrested for possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, and possession of a schedule II narcotic with intent to distribute.

The pair was transported to Stephens County Jail where they are awaiting bond.
