Toccoa pair arrested after leading sheriff’s deputies on a brief chase

Two Toccoa residents have been arrested after leading Stephens County Sheriff’s Deputies on a foot chase.

According to Stephens County Sheriff Randy Shirley the incident occurred during the early morning hours of Sunday, November 3, after deputies received a complaint about a 4-wheeler riding on the roads, in the area of North Broad River Road.

After waiting for several minutes in silence, the ATV drove past the deputy with two people riding it.

Shirley said his deputy activated his blue lights and siren and attempted to stop the ATV; however, instead of pulling over the ATV fled from the deputy and entered property on Old Mize Road, where it came to a stop and the pair fled on foot.

The deputy was able to apprehend one of the suspects, later identified as 23-year-old Devin Beavers.

Shirley said at that time the deputy requested the assistance of tracking canines from Lee Arrendale State Prison, who arrived on scene shortly after.

With the canines assisting, deputies were able to apprehend the other suspect, identified as 34-year-old Brandon Maney.

The pair was arrested and transported to the Stephens County Jail.

Beavers was charged with operating an ATV on a public road and fleeing and attempting to elude law enforcement.

Once inside the Stephens County Jail, Maney was found to be in possession of marijuana.

He is charged with possession of marijuana, obstruction of a law enforcement officer, and crossing the guard lines with drugs.

Beavers was later released on a $1,500 bond, while Maney is currently being held on a $7,000 bond.
