Toccoa Mayor says planning meetings were productive

The Toccoa City Commission met with the Downtown Development Authority and the city’s department heads on Monday, for its annual Planning Meetings.

According to Toccoa Mayor Terry Carter, the meetings were productive.

He says that during the Downtown Development Authority meeting with the City Commission, the authority talked about several of its goals for downtown Toccoa.

“We began the morning, meeting with the Downtown Development Authority, we reviewed most of the goals that they have set for 2020, we’ve reviewed their mission statement and the vision statement,” he said. “They discussed the need to continue with the façade grant program as well the Currahee Street Beautification program, they asked that that be funded in next year’s budget. We also talked about the need for improvements to the underpass maybe with additional lighting.”

Carter added that the DDA is planning to introduce some new events in 2020.

“The Downtown Development Authority also talked about their events they’re planning for 2020. This year they have over 50 events planned,” he said. “So we appreciate all of their efforts, and the good job that the Authority does for the city.”

Carter also noted that the DDA is made up of volunteers who are dedicated to improving downtown Toccoa for the community.

The Authority is made up of an all-volunteer board of quality people who give their time and effort to make the down town a better place. Each one of them who serves does a great job.”

Later in the morning, the City Commission met with the city’s department heads to discuss what each department is hoping to accomplish in 2020.

Carter says there were several items discussed including changes to the Utilities Department.

He says during the meeting with the department heads, the board also discussed the roads they plan to resurface in 2020.
