Toccoa man arrested for DUI, after short chase

In recent weeks, officers with the Toccoa Police Department have received a number of complaints regarding empty homes being vandalized.

According to Toccoa Police Chief Jimmy Mize, on July 11, while officers were patrolling one of the reported areas, they spotted a Ford Ranger pickup leaving one of the homes.

After stopping the vehicle, officers discovered the driver, identified as John Douglas, 54, of Toccoa, to be under the influence.

Mize told WNEG News, his officers administered field sobriety test, which Douglas failed; they then requested a blood test.

However, Douglas then decided to flee on foot.

According to Mize, after a short struggle with officers, Douglas was arrested and taken to the Stephens County Hospital for the blood test and then to the Stephens County Jail.

Douglas was charged with DUI, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug related objects, and obstruction of an officer.
