Toccoa man arrested following traffic stop in Habersham County

A Toccoa man was arrested in Habersham County recently following a traffic stop that led Sheriff’s Deputies to uncover a quantity of methamphetamine.

According to Habersham County Sheriff Joey Terrell, the incident occurred May 28, just after midnight, in Alto, when Habersham County Deputies pulled over 28-year-old Cornelia resident Cody Ray Bennett and 22-year-old Toccoa resident Jonathan Tyler Norton at Railroad Avenue and Bennett Street.

Terrell says deputies pulled over the pair when Bennett failed to stop at a stop sign.

That stop led to both men being charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

Bennett has also been charged with driving on a revoked or suspended license and failure to stop at a stop sign.

Terrell adds that his office requested the assistance of the Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office (ARDEO) for the narcotics investigation.

Both men were arrested and taken to the Habersham County Jail.

Norton remains in the Habersham County Jail on a $11,200 bond and Bennett remains in jail on a $13,600 bond.

Terrell says the investigation remains active at this time.
