Toccoa Falls announces New Head Men’s Soccer Coach

He is also the North American Head Scout for the Thailand Men’s National Soccer Team. Coach Sweeney has coached at the college, professional and national team levels for many years. He played college soccer and twelve seasons of professional soccer. He has a USSF A License, a FIFA Coaching License, and a Bachelor’s in Sports Management from Columbia Southern University.

He is originally from Ireland and has been married to Bethany since 2001, and they have one son, Keenan. Sweeney enjoyed a professional career for over 12 years. He played in the Irish First Division, the Irish Premier League, the USL Pro League, and the USL Pro Select League. In his final professional stint with the Real Maryland Monarchs, Sweeney served as a player and assistant coach under manager Anthony Hudson, the former interim head coach of the United States men’s national team.

Sweeney served on the staff of the Bahrain U23 national team when they won their first-ever gold medal at the U23 Gulf Cup of Nations, and later served on the staff of the Bahrain senior national team from 2012-14. He also served as a trainer and scout for the New Zealand senior national team from 2015-17. Sweeney coached the All Whites against the likes of the United States, Mexico, Portugal, and Northern Ireland.

Sweeney states, “I am honored and excited to serve as the head coach of the Toccoa Falls Men’s Soccer program. I look forward to working with this outstanding group of young men and am deeply grateful to the president and athletic director for their confidence in me and for this incredible opportunity.”
