Toccoa Commissioners approve Grant Application for Ritz Theatre
A goal of the Toccoa City Commission has been the support of arts and art education through the operation of the Historic Ritz Theatre. The City recently learned of funding availability through the Fox Theatre Institute’s Fox Gives Preservation and Facilities Grant Program. At their meeting on Monday, July 28, the Toccoa City Commission unanimously approved a grant application for these funds on behalf of the Ritz, says Toccoa Mayor Terry Carter.
If the grant is approved, the City would replace 358 auditorium chairs, add house lighting, and an LED digital wall on the stage. The total project is estimated at $200,000. The city would pay its half of the 50/50 matching grant with funds from the Commission’s Reserve Account, which is kind of a savings account. The Fox Theatre Institute will announce the $100,000 grant recipients in October.
