Toccoa City Commissioners tour Water Plants in Gainesville

The City of Toccoa is studying ways to upgrade and improve its water treatment plant off Falls Road. Members of the Toccoa City Commission recently toured two water treatment plant facilities in Gainesville, explains Toccoa City Commissioner Gail Fry.

“The Commission and Toccoa City Manager Fredda Wheeler had the opportunity to visit two water plants in Gainesville. One was an older plant that has been renovated and is up and running with all the upgraded facilities, and then another one is a newer facility. It just gave us the opportunity to look at what we can see, and the engineers compared some of the systems that both are using. We are working very hard to decide what will be best for our plant. We’re very strategically planning that and working on ways to pay for it.”

Mayor Evan Hellenga was grateful for the tours.

“It was quite a day. I didn’t realize how much exercise you get touring water plants. It was nice to see and hear these operators; questions were asked what would you do differently if you had the chance. So, it’s very much a learning experience, and it will be good for us going forward as we venture down this path of updating a new water treatment plant.”

The City is gathering information and has established a committee to look into upgrading the water treatment plant facility in the near future.
