Toccoa City Commission To Discuss Water Utility Projects, Cable Regulation

The Toccoa City Commission will meet twice today; once at 4 p.m. for a work session, and once at 5 p.m. for a regularly scheduled meeting. Both meetings will take place at City Hall, 92 N. Alexander Street. 

On the agenda for the work session is discussion of multiple City Water Service topics, including Wastewater Plant updates, EPD Withdrawal Permits, Water Model Updates, a Dechlorization Project, a Regional Water Sales update regarding Banks County, discussion of water treatment plant updates, including a discussion of a potential new plant, discussion of a letter regarding copper and lead to customers, and discussion of a raw water line to Lake Toccoa. 

On the agenda for the regular meeting at 4 p.m. is consideration of a De-Annexation request for property located at 2692 Highway 17A, identified as the location of the Highway 17 Diner. The owner has requested to be de-annexed from the City of Toccoa. 

Also on the agenda is a rezoning request for property located in the 1700 block of Fernside Drive. According to agenda documentation, the property is currently zoned single family residential, and the owner wishes to have it rezoned to two-Family residential to allow for the construction of two duplexes and one single family home on the 0.59 acre parcel. Commissioners will also consider a lease Agreement with Milestone Tower Limited Partnership for the installation of a wireless communications tower 566 Alewine Drive As well as consider an agreement with the Georgia Municipal Association for Telecommunications and Right of Way Management. According to agenda documentation, the city is seeking to “provide regulation and oversight of cable television and other communication services being provided to the citizens of the city.”
