Toccoa 12U Lose Opening Game at State

The Toccoa Little League 12 & Under Baseball All-Stars lost their opening 1st round game at the state tournament in Cartersville Saturday afternoon, 13 to 3, in four innings.

The game started well for Toccoa as they score 3 runs in the top of the first inning led by singles from Duke Collins and Caden Hamilton, a double from Landry Williams, and a groundout by Brant Smith which drove in Hamilton.  But Matinez-Evans scored 10 runs in the bottom of the first and held Toccoa scoreless for the rest of the game.  Brant Smith, the third Toccoa pitcher used in the first inning, got the final out in that inning and gave up only 1 more run in 2 and a third innings of work on the mound.

Martinez-Evans will play Sunday in the winners bracket at 2:30 against Dudley, a 4 to 1 winner over Peachtree City National.  Toccoa will face Peachtree City National in a losers bracket game at 5.  In other games at the state tournament, Harris County defeated Athens, 15 to 1; and Bartow County got by Smyrna, 3 to 1.
