Toccoa 11U Loses Tough One to Columbus

The Toccoa Little League All-Stars opened 11U state tournament play suffering a tough 9-8 loss to Northern of Columbus on Sunday in Dudley, Georgia.

Toccoa trailed early 2-0, but came back to grab a 4-2 lead after 3 innings and an 8-2 lead after 4 innings. Toccoa was aided by 9 Northern walks in the two innings and scored the 8 runs on just 3 hits.

Northern of Columbus battled back scoring 4 runs on 4 hits in the 5th inning to cut the lead to 8-6. In the top of the 6th inning Northern got two men on by a hit and an error, but Toccoa reliever Isaiah Patterson struck out the next two hitters. Northern’s Boris Garcia reached base for the 4th straight time with an infield single that scored David Ritchie to trim the lead to 8-7, and Sam Hilton’s two-out two-strike single plated the go ahead runs.

Garcia picked up the win for Northern throwing two shutout innings, and Patterson suffered the tough loss for Toccoa.

Toccoa’s Duke Collins pitched 5 innings for Toccoa allowing 7 runs on 7 hits, striking out 4, and only walking one.

Collins also led Toccoa at the plate with two hits, and RBI, and two runs scored. Toccoa also had runs scored by Andrew Gibson, Lincoln Hicks, Blakely King, Seth Stonecypher, Dalton Caudell, and Keegan Crunkleton.

Patterson also had two RBI’s for Toccoa, and Caden Hamilton, and Levi Brooks also had RBI’s.

Toccoa will now play an elimination game on Monday night vs. Cartersville. Airtime on WNEG is set for 7:45 P.M. with first pitch scheduled for 8 P.M.
