Titans Defeat Indians, 42-10

Stephens County will head on the road next week to try and play their way into the state football playoffs.

Friday night, the Indians lost at home to North Oconee, 42-10 in Region 8-AAAA football.

Head Coach Wesley Tankersley said the team just has to keep working and competing at every level.

“Some of the young guys made mistakes, but they’re freshman and they’re going to make mistakes,” Tankersley said. “Hopefully, they’ll learn from those. This season isn’t over yet. We’re going to go to Madison County and that game is probably for a playoff spot. We just have to keep working.”

North Oconee got on the board quick, scoring in the opening minutes on a 41-yard touchdown pass from Bubba Chandler to Chance Cross.

After a Mardy Lanier kickoff return gave the Indians great field position, Cason League converted a 27-yard field goal to cut the Titans’ lead to 7-3.

However, Adam Weynand scored on a five-yard touchdown run a minute later to make it 14-3, Titans.

Two more touchdown passes by Chandler made it 28-3 at halftime in favor of North Oconee.

In the third quarter, Weynand scored his second touchdown on a 25-yard run and Jacob Wright scored on a 56-yard run for the Titans. In between those scores, the Indians did get a touchdown when M.J. Jones scored on a 13-yard run following a Ben Stowe fumble recovery.

The loss drops the Indians to 1-7 overall and 0-2 in the region. North Oconee moves to 9-0 overall and 3-0 in the region.

Stephens County travels to Danielsville next week to face Madison County in another region game.
