Time is running out to register to vote before February 24 deadline

Stephens County residents have less than a week to register to vote before the Presidential Preference Primary in March.

On Monday, February 24, all residents who have not registered to vote will be ineligible to vote in the upcoming election.

WNEG News reported last week that in Stephens County 776 inactive registered voters were purged from the voter rolls; however, you still have time be added back to the roll before the Presidential Preference Primary.

Stephens County Registrar Eureka Gober says anyone who hasn’t voted in the last two elections have been removed from the roll.

“Voters that have been deleted from the voter registration, because they haven’t voted in the past two elections, they need to call up here to see if they are still registered to vote in the Presidential Preference Primary, and if they are not on the list, they need to register before February 24, to vote in the Presidential Election,” she said.

Again, the deadline to re-register to vote in the Presidential Preference Primary is Monday, February 24.

“They can just call the office and ask if they are still registered to vote. If not, they can go online and register or come up here and register,” she said.

Gober adds that sample ballots are available for review at the Stephens County Registrar’s Office and online through the Secretary of State’s My Voter Page.

Additionally, she says anyone wishing to receive an absentee ballot can request an application now.

“First we have to send you an application and then when you send it back to us we will send you the ballot. She’s been sending those out this week, and those have to be back by March 24, at 7 p.m. when the polls close,” she said.

The Presidential Preference Primary election will be held on Tuesday, March 24, at the Senior Center, located on Roselane.

Early voting begins Monday, March 2, and will run Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. until Friday, March 20, at the Stephens County Registrar’s Office.
