TCC approves $25,000 supplemental funding for the TSC Humane Shelter

The Toccoa City Commission has agreed to provide additional supplemental funding to the Toccoa-Stephens County Humane Shelter.

The decision was made on Monday during the Toccoa City Commission’s regular scheduled meeting.

City Manager Billy Morse explained that in July 2022, the humane shelter requested $50,000; however, at that time the City Commission agreed to provide the humane shelter with $25,000. He says the commission is being asked to revisit the topic on the remaining $25,000.

Commissioner Jeanette Jamieson said she’s in favor of providing the shelter with the funding they are requesting.

“When the original funding was considered, the Humane Shelter did not receive what it asked for…it received half as much. The County and the City told the Humane Shelter that if they saw that that was not going to be sufficient, they would come back at the beginning of 2023 and ask for the balance. With that thought in mind, I would like to make the motion that the city consider the request for $25,000 contingent on what the County does,” she said.

Jamieson’s motion was approved unanimously.

The Stephens County Board of Commissioners will meet this evening to discuss providing additional supplemental funding for the shelter as well.
