Stowe Throws for 6 Touchdowns and Possible School Record in Rout of Lions
Branson Stowe threw six touchdown passes, four of those connections with Duke Collins, and the Stephens County Indians rolled to a 42-14 region-opening road win over Franklin County Friday night, September 25, in Carnesville.
Stowe and Collins completed the opening drive with a 43-yard touchdown pass, and two 2nd quarter touchdowns of 22 and 9 yards. Stowe also dropped off a screen pass to Jasiah Wiley for a 46-yard touchdown in the 1st quarter.
Franklin County’s first-half score came on their opening drive with a Knox Whitworth to Jett Whitworth 34-yard touchdown pass.
The Indians extended the lead to 35-7 in the 3rd quarter when Stowe connected with Collins for an 8-yard touchdown pass.
Franklin County’s Knox Whitworth threw his 2nd touchdown pass, this time from 11 yards to Myles Kelley to close the score to 35-14.
Stowe’s 6th touchdown pass went for 44 yards to Kaiden Harbin for a 42-14 lead.
Stowe’s unofficial 391 passing yards would be a school record.
Collins also had an interception in the game, and Isiah Patterson and Peyton Feaster had fumble recoveries.
It was the 3rd straight win for Stephens County, now 3-2 overall and 1-0 in region 8-AAA play.
Stephens County Head Coach Thomas Flowers was proud of his team.
“I’m so proud of them, and you actually said it right, you said playoffs, and that’s exactly what we’ve been preaching to them every day this week, that the rest of our games we need to treat like playoffs. There are no give-me games left. There’s none. Every single game, here on out, for the rest of the season, is going to be an absolute dog fight, and they came prepared. They practiced well all week. They suffered a lot of adversity in this game. There were some penalties, you know, very interesting penalties. There was some chipiness from the other team, but they were so mature, they showed so much character, they showed so much discipline, every penalty, every little chipiness, all of it, they just played the next play. They just played one play at a time, and I could not be more proud of them and this coaching staff. The coaching is amazing!”
Franklin County falls to 3-2 overall and 0-1 in the region.
Stephens County will host undefeated Hart County next Friday night, October 2, at the Reservation.
