Stephens-Jackson Split and Will Play Deciding Game Thursday
Saige Weckesser and Karlie Brady knocked in 2 runs each to lead Stephens County to a 5-2 home win over Jackson in game two of the best of three series in the opening round of the Class AA softball state playoffs on Wednesday night.
The Indians forced a game three to be played Thursday.
Weckesser’s single scored Emma Kate Powell and Nyleigh Hutto in the top of the 1st to give the Indians the early lead.
Jackson catcher Cassie Glover hit a home run to cut the lead to one in the bottom of the inning.
Stephens County extended the lead to 3-1 when Carley Funderburke was intentionally walked with the bases loaded in the 2nd inning and took a 3-run lead in the 6th inning on Brady’s 2 RBI double, scoring Aniston Young and Kacey Wallace.
Wallace pitched all 7 innings allowing just one earned run on 6 hits while striking out 6 to get the win.
In game one, Jackson scored 3 runs on 6 hits in the 3rd inning and held on for a 5-2 victory. Haislyn Cromer pitched the complete game and had 2 hits to lead the Red Devils.
Elly Hicks had the only RBI for the Indians.
The two teams will play a deciding game Thursday at 2 P.M. at the Indians softball complex. WNEG will broadcast the game with airtime at 1:45 P.M.
