Stephens County visits Habersham Central for Varsity Football Game Tonight

The Stephens County Indians will make the short trip up to Mt. Airy tonight to play the Habersham Central Raiders in high school football action. Kickoff will be at 7:30 p.m.
Both teams lost their season openers on the road last Friday night. The Indians lost to Gilmer County, 43-29, while the Raiders lost to Hart County, 51-3.
Stephens County lost last year’s game at Habersham Central, 27-3, which broke the Indians’ 5-game winning streak in the series.
Last night on the Crunch Time radio program, Stephens County’s Linebackers Coach Kirk Rogers says the Indians will face a versatile Habersham Central offense in this big rivalry game.
“Definitely, the quarterback makes it go. He is their engine, and they will disperse it. They will get the ball out in space, and they’ll try to get behind you. They’re going to give you the RPO concept, run it or pass it. It is a rival, and I know we’re not in the same classification, but it is definitely a game that we can pinpoint, our kids talk about, and I think they understand the importance of this game.”

In other games tonight: Franklin County will travel to East Hall; Hart County will play at Madison County; Elbert County hosts Wesleyan; Banks County is on the road to West Hall; Rabun County hosts Metter; Commerce hosts East Jackson; and White County hosts Union County.
In Junior Varsity football action last night (Thursday, August 27), Stephens County lost their season opener to Franklin, North Carolina at The Reservation, 20-14. The J-V Indians will play Hart County at home next Thursday at 5 p.m.
The Stephens County Middle School Rebels improved to 3-0 last night with a road win at Madison County, 14-6 in overtime. The Rebels next game will be Thursday, September 10, at Franklin County with game time at 5:30 p.m.
