Stephens County Schools Closed Thursday and Friday
Dr. Connie Franklin and the Stephens County School System has announced that Schools will be closed Thursday and Friday. Dr. Franklin delivered the following message:
In light of the anticipated severe weather conditions, Stephens County Schools will be closed on Thursday and Friday for students and employees.
All afterschool activities will be cancelled both Thursday and Friday. This decision comes as a precautionary measure ahead of the incoming storm, which is expected to bring 6-8 inches of rain before Hurricane Helene makes landfall. We collaborated closely with the National Weather Service, Homeland Security, and local 911 services to assess the situation and make this informed decision.
The heavy rainfall is likely to render certain roads in our county impassable, and with the forecast of extreme winds, flooding, and potential downed trees, we prioritize the safety and well-being of our students and employees.
We understand that school closures can be challenging for families, but we believe that this decision is necessary to ensure everyone’s safety. We encourage parents and guardians to monitor local weather updates and take necessary precautions during this time.
Thank you for your understanding and support.
