Stephens County Roads Department worked 12.87 miles of County Roads in 2026

Regular maintenance on roads is crucial to providing adequate infrastructure and safety to the traveling public. This year, the Stephens County Roads Department worked on 12.87 miles of county roads, and Stephens County Administrator Christian Hamilton said they are the best in the state.

“We’ve got the best Road Department in the State of Georgia, and I would stand on that. Jason Holland does a phenomenal job leading his team, and they do a great job every year not only keeping the right of ways maintained but paving. We are one of the smaller counties in the state that has a full in-house paving crew, and it saves our taxpayers hundreds of thousands dollars a year on having to work with outside contractors. This year, we completed work on almost 13 miles of county roads. Roads that we repaved included: Old Cannon Road, Cannon Road, Old Rothell Road, Indian Drive, Mountain View Circle, Old Yow Mill Road, South Century Drive, Brown Circle, Buena Vista Extension, Cawthon Road, Christine Circle, Currahee Lane, Currahee Point, Fieldcrest Drive, Gulley Road, Jerry Walker Road, Good Hallford Road, Phillips Road, Sherwood Street, Sherwood Court, and Whisenant Street. So, quite a few roads that we repaved this year, and did a phenomenal job doing it. Our guys worked almost from April to September, and they’re finishing up shoulder work now with final striping to occur soon after, but all the paving is done. We’re looking forward to getting next year’s paving season started. Citizens should stay tuned in. We hope to have our road paving list approved in the very near future, hopefully in October, with our LMIG roads also approved at the same time, and we typically submit grant applications to the state to get funding to build those roads through the LMIG Grant Program. So, great work our guys do, proud of them, proud of Jason, proud of his team, and just thankful that we’ve got some folks that really care about doing what is right for the public.”

Stephens County Commission Chair Chris Rickman praised the Roads Department for all their hard work this paving season.

“Again this paving season, the Road Department exceeded expectations. That department does a fantastic job of trying to make sure that our road system within the county is in the best shape it can be in. They work out in the heat, work some long hours to make sure that our concerns and any issues with the roads in the county are addressed. So, I’m just very appreciative of all the hard work they’ve done, not just this season, but that they always do every year, and they really provide such a tremendous benefit to the citizens of Stephens County. So, just a big shoutout to the Road Department for their excellent performance this paving season.”
