Stephens County represented in 2nd annual Statewide Bible Reading

Happening Tuesday morning is a massive effort to read from the Bible on the steps of every single county courthouse in the state of Georgia.

Each of the 159 counties will read a different section of the Bible starting at 7:14 a.m. Tuesday, July 14.

The date and time for the event were chosen to bring attention to the Scripture in 2 Chronicles 7:14, a verse that refers to people calling out to God and having God heal their land.

For the second year in a row, residents from every county in the Peach State will be reading at the same time.

In Stephens County, Local Organizer Kathy Whitmire will be reading from Matthew Chapters 18 through 24.

Whitmire says The Cochran-Bleckley Ministerial Alliance started this event in Georgia and Jerry Tuck, the ministry’s secretary, has been organizing the various county readings.

In a release issued by Tuck, she says “the Bible has been divided up into equal readings for our 159 counties…all counties [are] represented.”

Tuck adds that since Georgia has so many counties, the readings take no longer than 45 minutes to an hour.

In Stephens County, Tuesday’s Bible reading will be held on the steps of the Stephens County Historic Courthouse, facing West Doyle Street, beginning at 7:14 a.m.

The public is invited and encouraged to attend.
