Stephens County Registrar and Board of Electors will continue early processing absentee ballots Dec. 30, Jan. 4

The Stephens County Registrar’s Office and Board of Elections will process absentee ballots early for the January 5th Runoff Election.

According to Stephens County Registrar Eureka Gober, the Board of Elections began early processing on Monday, December 28, and will continue processing absentee ballots on December 30, 2020 and January 4, 2021.

Early processing will be completed at the Stephens County Registrar’s Office inside the Historic Stephens County Courthouse, located at 37 W. Tugalo Street, in Toccoa.

During each designated day, the Board of Electors will start at 5:30 p.m. and continue until 8:30 p.m.

Gober says the absentee ballots being processed have already been verified and accepted, meaning the signatures on the outer envelope have been matched against what the county has on file.

Stephens County Deputy Registrar April Roberts says they will not be tabulating the ballots; but, instead just getting the absentee ballots ready for tabulation on election night.

As of Monday afternoon, the Stephens County Registrar’s Office had received 1,297 Absentee Mail-in ballots and 8 UOCAVA Ballots.

Again, the Board of Electors will continue early processing of absentee ballots on December 30, and again on January 4, at 5:30 p.m.
