Stephens County reaches 1,000 total cases of COVID-19

The Georgia Department of Public Health is now reporting Stephens County has reached 1,000 positive COVID-19 cases since the beginning of the global pandemic.

The report shows 33 COVID-19 related deaths in Stephens County.

The latest report was released Sunday afternoon.

DPH is now reporting Habersham County with a total of 66 deaths, and 1,557 total positive cases of the virus.

Locally, Stephens County Hospital and its facilities have administered 5,048 COVID-19 tests.

Of those, 992 tests have come back positive with 788 patients receiving positive results, 4,025 received negative results, and 31 individuals are still awaiting their results.

Stephens County Hospital Chief Executive Officer Mike Hester says the hospital currently has two patients hospitalized with confirmed cases of COVID-19, and two others hospitalized awaiting results.

In other neighboring counties, Hart County is now reporting 13 deaths and 484 cases, Banks County is reporting 7 deaths and 469 cases, Franklin County has had 713 cases and 11 deaths, and Rabun County has a total of 320 cases and 7 deaths.

Across the state of Georgia, the Department of Public Health is now reporting a total of 306,155 cases, of those, 27,377 have been hospitalized and 6,602 have died from complications of the virus.
