Stephens County Planning Commission recommends a Variance Request for ASI Southeast 

The Stephens County Planning Commission recommended approval of a variance request by ASI Southeast on Hayes-Wilbanks Road at their monthly meeting on Tuesday, August 4. The variance reduces the required front setback from 80 feet to 60 feet. Stephens County Planner Jeanne Pauley gives details.

“According to the applicant, the requested variance is necessary due to existing utility corridors, site topographing, and anticipated future improvements to the Hayes-Wilbanks Road, which reduce the available buildable area on the property. The requested setback reduction will allow sufficient room for the proposed building, required parking, truck circulation, stormwater management facilities, and other required site improvements while maintaining safe access throughout the development. The Commercial Industrial zoning district is intended to accommodate industrial and manufacturing uses while providing development standards that promote orderly growth. The requested variance does not change the permitted use of the property but provides relief from the required front setback due to the site-specific physical constraints.”   

The Planning Commission is a recommending Authority for the Stephens County Board of Commissioners. 

The Planning Commission meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. at 37 West Tugalo Street in Toccoa. 

The Board of Commissioners hears the Planning Commission recommendations on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m.
