By Ken Brady
The Stephens County Indians will host the Hart County Bulldogs in high school football tonight, October 2. Kickoff will be at 7:30 p.m. The Indians have an overall record of 3-2 and are 1-0 in Region 8-AAA after defeating Franklin County in Carnesville last Friday, 42-14. Hart County, under their new head coach, Biff Parson, has yet to lose this season. The Bulldogs are a perfect 6-0 on the season with a region mark of 2-0. Hart County won last Friday against Lumpkin County, 50-14. Last year, the Indians won in Hartwell over the Bulldogs 21-10.
Last night on the Crunch Time radio show, Stephens County’s Special Teams Coordinator Gordon Thigpen said that Hart County is a very good team and it will take a great effort by the Indians to come out on top:
“I like it when we play good teams. Those are the games that I signed up to coach and be a part of. Hart is a good team, and it’s going to take our kids playing the best they can and us coaching the best we can. The quarterback is really good. They’re fast across the board in skill positions. Their bigs are not the biggest I’ve ever seen, but they play big, they play physical. It’s going to force us to be really, really good. I’m excited about it. This is a fun game to be a part of.”
Coverage on 93.1 FM and AM 630 WNEG starts at 5:30 tonight with the Indian Road Show live from The Reservation, followed by Coach’s Corner at 7 and pre-game at 7:15.
In the other Region 8-AAA games tonight, Franklin County travels to Hebron Christian, and Elbert County hosts Morgan County.
Looking elsewhere around the area this evening, Habersham Central goes to Apalachee, Madison County hosts East Forsyth, White County hosts Gilmer County, East Jackson hosts West Hall, Commerce travels to Temple, and Banks County hosts Oglethorpe County. Rabun County has the night off.
In middle school football action last night, the Stephens County Middle School Rebels built an 8-0 halftime lead into a 20-0 shutout victory over Madison County at The Reservation in the first round of the conference playoffs. The Rebels will host the winner of Hart County/Elbert County for the NEGIAA football conference championship on Thursday, October 8, at The Reservation.
