Stephens County High School Anglers Club joins GHSA

The Stephens County High School Anglers Club is now a part of the Georgia High School Association (GHSA). This is their first year, explains Advisor Chris Holland.

“This is our first year joining GHSA. They do four qualifying tournaments. There’s usually two in the northern part of the state and two in the southern part. We can send six teams. It’s high school only. If you fish one and qualify, you automatically qualify into the state championship, which is usually in May or June, and it is a state title just like football, basketball, or anything else. We’re also part of the Georgia Bass Nation. All the anglers, including the middle school, can compete in the Georgia Bass Nation Series and also qualify in for a state championship, which is affiliated with the BASS Masters.”

The Anglers Clubs have several members this year, adds Holland.

“This is our eighth season. We started in 2018. This year, we have ten high school teams and four middle school teams.”

Each team is composed of two students and one captain, an adult volunteer who operates the boat. Follow the Stephens County Anglers on Facebook and track their progress this season.
