Stephens County Girls Fall Just Short-Boys Run Streak to Six

The Stephens County Lady Indians were close to victory Saturday afternoon at Habersham Central, but came up short, 52 to 49.  Habersham’s Addie Penick sank a couple of free throws very late in the game to seal the victory for the Lady Raiders.  The Lady Indians had a slim lead at halftime, 27 to 26.  NaNa Eades led Stephens County with 20 points.  A couple of freshmen led the Lady Raiders—Taylor Wade and Nikerriah Brown each had 12 points.  Stephens County falls to 1 & 8, while Habersham improves to 3 & 6.

In varsity boys action, Stephens County started fast and had a 19 to 5 lead at the end of the first period and cruised to a 69 to 51 win over Habersham Central.  The Indians built a 30 point lead at the end of the third period, and ended with an 18-point victory.  Ty Nails led all scorers with 20 points.  Takias Nails scored 16 points, all in the third period.  Dontarius Bailey led the Raiders with 15 points.

The Indians have now won six straight and improve to 8-2 overall while Habersham drops to 2-7.

In J-V action, Stephens County boys won a close game, 43 to 42.  Stephens County’s J-V girls lost, 30 to 23.

The Indians and Lady Indians will face Habersham Central again this Tuesday, this time at the Currahee Arena.  Airtime on 93.1 FM and AM-630 WNEG will be at 5:45 P.M.
