Stephens County gears up for Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Stephens County is gearing up for another Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

In observation of the National Holiday, a series of events to celebrate Dr. King are being held in Toccoa.

Activities will kick-off this weekend at 3 p.m. with the annual Senior Citizens Reflections on Saturday, January 18, held at the Cross Roads Baptist Church, located at the intersection of Rock Creek Road and Whispering Pines Drive.

On Sunday, activities continue with the Youth Extravaganza, held at Friendship Baptist Church on Sage Street, beginning at 5 p.m.

Then, the annual Interfaith Service will be held on Monday, January 20, beginning at noon at Trinity CME Church on Franklin Street.

Following the Interfaith Service, the celebration concludes with the annual March for Peace in Toccoa to remember Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. beginning at 2 p.m.

The march will start in front of Trinity C.M.E. and ends at Toccoa City Hall.

Once at city hall, this year’s Oratorical/essay contest winner will recite their essay before the group.
