Stephens County E911 continues search for person responsible for jamming radio signals

The Stephens County Emergency Management continues to ask for the public’s help to locate the person who has been jamming the signals for the Stephens County 911 Center, keeping emergency and law enforcement calls from going through.

On their Facebook page, Director Danielle Rhodes wrote Stephens County 911 has been attacked by a “phantom radio operator.”

Rhodes said a phantom radio operator is a person  who has a radio with the Stephens County 911 frequencies and has been using it during emergency calls in an attempt to disrupt emergency response and on-scene operations.

It is believed the hacker is using a cheap emergency type radio to jam Stephens County 911 calls.

Rhodes noted the person may think it’s a funny prank, but it places the lives of law enforcement officers, firefighters, and paramedics at risk, as well as the person or incident they’re trying to reach if the information on where they’re supposed to go is jammed by a prankster or hacker.

She also noted it is a crime in Georgia to interfere with emergency communications and her office has documented all of the instances in which the jamming occurred, and have turned that information over to the Stephens County Sheriff’s office.

Rhodes said once the person is caught, her office will press charges to the fullest extent of the law.

If anyone has any information on who the person is that is jamming signals, you are asked to please contact the Stephens County 911  non-emergency number at 706-779-3911.

You do not have to give your name.
