Stephens County Commissioners pass IGA with Martin for Building Inspection Services
The Stephens County Board of Commissioners unanimously passed an Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) with the City of Martin for building permitting and inspection services at their meeting on Tuesday, September 8. Stephens County Administrator Christian Hamilton gives details.
“So, Martin has reached out to us and asked us to take over all of their permitting and inspections for new construction and renovation work and things like that occurring within the City of Martin. This would be an Intergovernmental Agreement where they would grant us the ability to handle that for them. So, folks would come to our building, they would pull their permits for Martin, and then we would inspect it like we do our normal inspection process for the hundreds of permits that we get on an annual basis in Stephens County. All of the fees would be collected by Stephens County. So, anything that came through we would keep the fees, we would assign the work from there, and just a really good opportunity for the City of Martin and Stephens County to continue to work together.”
The Building Inspections Department’s mission is to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the people in Stephens County by ensuring a safe building environment and to promote responsible growth by assisting residents, builders, contractors, and developers throughout the county with compliance to the current codes adopted by the Stephens County Board of Commissioners.
