Stephens County Commission to Wait on Tower Ordinance

At Tuesday’s Stephens County Commission meeting commissioners were expecting to adopt a new tower ordinance, but after hearing from citizens Brian Dooley, and John Smith concerning the language used in the proposed ordinance, commissioners decided to revisit the language used in the ordinance and table a decision until their September meeting.

Other actions taken during Tuesday’s meeting included:

Approval of the Fiscal Year 2016 budget amendment for Stephens County Fire Services, and  authorization of chairman to sign a resolution.

Approval of the Fiscal Year 2015 budget amendment for the Mountain Judicial Circuit, and authorization of chairman to sign a resolution.

Approval to enter into an Intergovernmental agreement with the City of Toccoa concerning the paving of Memorial Drive from Big A Road to the Bypass.

Approval to authorize chairman to sign Group Health Benefits and Wellness Program, and support for the Toccoa-Stephens County Literacy Foundation.

Approval of Opal Griffin as trustee for the Toccoa-Stephens County Public Library to fulfill the unexpired term of Katherine Sanders.

As mentioned on previous newscasts, Stephens County Commissioners also implemented a single stream recycling program and declared the next Stephens County Amnesty Day to be Saturday, September 26th.
