Stephens County Boys and Girls End Tournament With Wins

Ty and Takius Nails combined for 33 points to lead the Stephens County Indians Basketball team to a 68-62 win over host East Jackson for 3rd place in the Commerce Christmas Tournament on Saturday.

Chris Sinclair and Nigel Green added 11 each for the Indians to improve their overall record to 11-4.

The Indians took two of three in the tournament defeating Winder-Barrow 90-82 on Thursday behind 33 points from Ty Nails, 20 from Green, and 15 from Takias Nails, and falling to Elbert County 74-61 on Friday. Sinclair scored 17 to lead the Indians in the loss to Elbert and Takias Nails added 15 points.

The Stephens County Lady Indians came on strong winning their final two games after dropping the opener to also finish 3rd in the tournament.

The Lady Indians picked up a huge win downing Lanier 51-28 on Friday, and followed that up with a 45-38 win over host East Jackson on Saturday. The Lady Indians loss came on Thursday falling to Winder-Barrow 57-29. WNEG has not received the top scorers for the Lady Indians tournament games.

With their first back to back wins of the season, the Lady Indians improve to 4-10.

Both Stephens County teams return to the hardwood on Friday night with a return to Region-8 play and a trip to Atlanta to face St. Pius. WNEG will broadcast both the girls and boys games with airtime scheduled for 6:45 P.M.
